Cheap Head-Mounted Display

Jake Hildebrandt's investigate head-mounted display hack. He use a Spy Video Car with Night Vision from previous post.

So it’s 2007: shouldn’t there be more cyborgs? Well, for a mere $25.00 (or
less), you can be one big step closer to being one yourself. How so, you ask?
Click the following link to to find out!
A few months ago, the rather clever
folks at Wild Planet released a nifty (though rather clumsily named) little
“toy” called the “Spy Video Car”. I cannot stress enough how well engineered
this gadget is. For around $100 (much less on eBay), you get:

  • A nicely-styled motorised car base with decent-for-a-toy steering and an
    almost silent powertrain
  • A two-channel R/C set, also of decent-for-a-toy quality
  • A color capable video transmitter/receiver with a few hundred feet of range
  • A miniature B&W CCD video camera (similar to one of these)
  • A very bright 8mm IR LED and, best of all, a…
  • A video headset containing a Kopin 300M B&W LCD screen, optics,
backlight, and a PAL/NTSC driver board

  • Steering wheel often commodity in the source code available (e.g. for own adjustment)
  • The MikroKopter possesses according to standard:
    • Gyroscopes (ENC-03) to stabilization
    • Acceleration sensors (LIS3L02) to the depth control
    • Pieper for signaling of receipt disturbance, undervoltage or as a detection assistance
    • Servo control with inclination compensation for video photographs (starting from V0.60)

Idea of super spy camera

Spies are not born, spies become.

Very often it would be desirable to take a photograph of somebody or something but to make it in opened happens inconveniently, happens it is forbidden. I have a not small 8x zoom camera, so it is very difficult to use it imperceptibly. Reflecting above those problem, the idea of creation spy mega camera was born. The idea consists in division of the camera on 3 (or more) parts: an objective, the screen and the shutter button.

An objective, in itself, even at ultra-zooms, compact enough, it is possible to hide in a hand, a cap or somewhere else.

Often, the attention involves not the camera, and not directed an objective, attention involves directed a sight of the person how tries to make a picture. Accordingly, it is necessary to make that the photographer during the moment of shooting do not look at a photographed object. Thus, the screen of the camera, should be not simply rotary. It should be demountable and mobile. That, for example, it was possible to hold an objective in one hand, and the screen to hold in another.

Well and, at last, the shutter button. It too should be mobile. It is possible to combine with the screen, but it is better to make it not dependent. That the camera could be turn on remotely.
